How to Make Video Presentation – Part 1

Categories: How To

Different types of video presentations

  • There are many types of presentations you could do, but some specialists divide them in two categories background presentations and main presentations;
  • The background presentations are usually just pictures fading in and out with some background music. Background presentations are decorative and it is rare when they have any text in them;
  • In main presentations there is a presenter that will talk to the audience about his subject. The presenter will use his video to help him give examples, explain more clearly, or bring out his point to the audience.

Key points in video presentations

  • If you are using slides keep them simple;
  • Do NOT try to cram everything in one slide, slides do not cost anything use as many as you need;
  • If you use a template make sure it is simple and has something to do with your subject. (Some times it is best not to use a template at all);
  • Make sure that the CONTRAST between the text and the background is high;
  • Do not read off of the screen, do not read what you wrote and are presenting, the audience can read by themselves. (Tip: Sometimes you can turn off the screen if you feel that the audience is not paying much attention to what you are saying and that way they will focus their attention on you)

Why audio is important for your presentation

  • Audio is very important piece in our video presentation since it keeps the audience focused;
  • When picking the audio you should consider your audience and what your presentations is about;
  • A website where you could get copyright free music is http://www.danosongs.com.

Copyrighted content in your video

  • Copyright is a problem that you will encounter a lot while making video presentations. Since sometimes you do not have enough footage for your presentations you will start looking for pictures, for example on websites such as www.google.com the pictures there are mostly copyright protected, websites such as www.flickr.com or www.morguefile.com  offer high quality pictures with no copyright problems;
  • One of the most common copyright problems is the audio copyright. It is quiet hard to find audio for presentations, even though programs such as PowerPoint, come with some built audio it is most of the time unused because it just does not fit in many presentations.

Creating Effective Presentations

  • Video presentation is enhanced with oral aspects. Although a video presentation can be entertaining or compelling, it cannot stand alone as the entire presentation. At minimum, an introduction, conclusion and question-and-answer section should be given orally and in person. The human element helps to personalize and clarify the content. Some programs such as PowerPoint give the option of choosing when to move on to the next slide or to go backward and forward at your discretion. This feature is useful because it allows you to spend as much time as you need on each section;
  • The content of a video presentation is not very different than any other presentation; only the format different. Video presentations can be a slide show (using software or a projector), a video or even a video conference – just make sure the point you are making is clear and concise. Don’t let the media overpower the message. Programs such as PowerPoint have many add-ons, animations and transitions that can be used to enhance your content if used sparingly. Using too many different colors or animations can distract the viewer and take away from the content itself;
  • On the other hand, using a program’s design template can give your presentation a professional and organized feel. If you are using slides, keep each slide simple and to the point. Too much information can bore or confuse the audience.

Creating a simple video presentation

  • A simple video is sometimes all you need. Sometimes you do not have enough time to edit and re-edit your presentation, when you know that you won’t have enough time it is best to keep it simple use white slides if any, a bit of text that you will expand on during the presentation, and some pictures, no audio, no animations, no videos.

How to leave a good impression

  • To leave a good impression on the audience you will first have to know as much as possible;
  • You will have to make connections about the subject to your life;
  • To make your videos more enjoyable you will want to make some jokes during your presentation;
  • It is always a good idea to implicate the audience in your presentation. Use their names while talking to them make sure that they participate that way you are sure to make them understand your message.
